As good with a spear as she is a fireball, Captain Hemi Hygal is one of Olendrasil's finest fighters. She is a constant companion of the Emrys, Dylenna-Qor, in control of her lady's ground and mounted forces, and is responsible for choosing the ten mages responsible for turning the tides in both the Siege of Hallstead and the Battle for Baros. Later in her career, Hemi earned a reputation for recruiting and pairing her mounted fighters with black-toothed vargun wolves and unicorns with black alicorns that became known commonly as "black-blades". Often black-blades were ostracized from their own herds, so recruiting and enlisting them gave them a sense of purpose. Fallen blackblade alicorns became the next generation of spear heads.
