Not A Quiet Place
3D Render by GeinNot A Quiet Place
After getting separated from her squad, Staff Sergeant Piper Murphy stumbled across an abandoned laundromat. It looked like a decent enough place to hole up, at least until what’s left of her unit manages to catch up. She wasn’t the only one with that idea.
Aurora Martin had already taken shelter inside. She is part of a civilian outfit that called themselves The Survivors Brigade, TSB for short. They’d just been torn to shreds by an alien assault back in the city.
The two young females hit it off immediately. Turns out, two really is better than one.
TSB had recently been outfitted with state-of-the-art military gear, the kind usually reserved for elite units. With it, they’d been backing up local forces and doing a damn good job, until everything went sideways.
No one really knew where the alien menace had come from or what they wanted. They hadn’t landed, broadcast, or made demands. They just showed up and started killing. According to what little intel was left, nearly a third of the planet’s population had been wiped out in just four months.
SSG Murphy and her squad had discovered evidence of something even more dangerous: something controlling the creatures known as Hunter-Killers, the nastiest of the bunch with incredible hearing, big claws and razor-sharp teeth. And while Murphy had developed a grim satisfaction in taking them down, she knew it wasn’t getting any easier.
They were tough bastards to say the least. But every soldier carried an M45E pulse rifle, capable of firing 1,000 rounds per minute. These weren’t traditional bullets, but energy-based pulse rounds. Accurate and 100% lethal up to 2,100 meters, with 250-round mags that barely weighed anything, they were humanity’s best shot at evening the odds.
Back in the laundromat, Piper and Aurora were quietly chatting, keeping their voices low, half-laughing at the absurdity of finding brief friendship in the middle of an alien apocalypse. Then Piper froze.
She raised her index finger to her lips.
Aurora went quiet and still.
There were three creatures outside, Hunter-Killers. One of them had definitely heard something. It was moving in their direction, slow and deliberate.
Aurora quietly drew her sidearm and cocked it. These newer models didn’t make a sound when fired.
Maybe it really was A Quiet Place, after all…
Thank You for your time!
