The Wish of Warmth
3D Render by midnight_star117My entry for the Daz Studio Mythical Contest
Inspired by the mythical goddess of snow, Khione, daughter of Boreas, God of the West Wind, and Orithyia of Athens, who was later immortalized as the goddess of cold mountain winds; in Greek mythology.
The Wish of Warmth
Kaldia wandered the mountain passes, angry that her father, Wiandath, would not let her travel down into the valley near civilians. He claimed her cold nature and heart would intimidate and cause fear to the people.
Her wrath was great and the white snows of the mountains threatened the people of the valleys and lower grounds, risking the planting season of the coming spring. Kaldia wanted to explore and understand the world and its people and she couldn't fathom why her father would not allow her to travel.
"We have our place in the world, Kaldia." He had said. "Our snows and cold winds are needed, for when they thaw, the water brings life to plants and animals. A frozen world would not allow the sun's energy to fuel nature's cycles. We must be wary not to cause catastrophic events that threaten the lives of all."
"It is just to see the world though, Father!" Kaldia had huffed, crossing her arms angrily.
"But where we go, our nature follows."
Worried for his daughter, Wiandath sent a guardian watcher to follow, ensuring that the seasons would remain as they should be. Treasured the Trelleri were, as they reported to the gods when the seasons did not move as they should.
And so Kaldia walked along the pines, wondering what it all meant. She wasn't cold-hearted and loved the people, even with her gift of snow flowing around her and the surrounding mountain peaks.
As the darkening skies began in the east and the sun set in the west, the goddess of snow lifted her hand full of energy to the it, as it's rays of warmth and light shone on her. Her expression was wistful as she wondered why we couldn't be gifted with a more acceptable nature.
The suns warmth turned the falling snow to water droplets and it was then that Kaldia understood the reason of why she was the person she was for the cold winter's snow fed the lifecycles of all. As much as she wished for warmth, the cold suited her temperament and personality.
Unbeknownst to her, the guardian looked on from behind the snow covered pines, pleased that she had calmed and content that the seasons will continue as they should.
