England's Notorious 66's
3D Render by dwindtI completed this render for a PS challenge. Although it is a 3D render, I had to manipulated the uniforms to get the 1066 England and West Germany emblems on. The Slazenger challenge 25 on the ball, including a world cup poster from 1066 on the flag and the design that was on the ticket that sold for the match, is on the table with the Jules Rimet trophy. The trophy was later stolen and never recovered. The bigger coins on the table bear King William and King Harold's faces, not that you can make them out but they're there anyway. The scene was getting too heavy to duplicate anymore knights so I made a series of alpha plains together with normal, bump and metalness maps in PS. The second and third ranks of British soldiers are alpha plains.
The brief for the challenge is listed below. Read it if you've got this far, look at the render and make up your own story...lol. I have.
There are three 66 dates that resonate with every red-blooded (and, indeed, blue-blooded) Englishman (and, indeed, Englishwoman (and, indeed, Englishperson of indeterminate gender)). In reverse chronological order:
1966, the year England won the World Cup;
1666, the date of the Great Fire of London;
1066, the Norman invasion of England at Hastings.
Would it be asking the impossible to incorporate all these 66 events in a single image?

Ha! I was your viewing your piece here as a serious recreation scene until I hit the part where England won the World Cup. That sent me back to the image to look much more closely. I can only say,"Brilliant!".

Thu, Aug 14Thank you Blue Flame. It's painful to realise how much work went into a 'tongue in cheeck' render. It actually has a nice composition for a serious image. Maybe I'll revisit it in time and rework it to a more time sensitive piece. Did you recognise The Monument to the Great Fire of London standing as goal posts?
Oh geeze, on first look I faved this under my category, Darkness! I was thinking something more bloody, lol.. This is awesome!! Did you get a new computer?

Thu, Aug 14Thanks Mel. 2 of the representing dates are representative of catastrophes, The Battle of Hastings and The great fire of England. Makes you wonder if 2066 will ignite another English mystery?
I did thanks, Mel.. I replaced it with an Intel(R) Core(TM) i9-14900K, 3200 Mhz, 24 Core(s), 32 Logical Processor(s) with a Nvidia 4080 super GC. What a difference but still running at 100%. no wonder my old pc was groaning.
