The Saintess Will Deliver Us Have Faith

This is my final render and submission for this competition. There was another, but I may not have time to enter that.

As a avid manga reader as well as being a fan of the Vampire genres... I wanted to combine both. Well honestly it is not new but it is my take on things.

Story:

"They are coming Captain..." Elle hissed as she took furtive glances all around the cavern.
From the sound of the footsteps, she could tell there were many and they were... hungry. They had no intention of hiding their intention. The tension began to rise as each scraping sound of their claws on the hard ground gave notice of their approach. Howls and wails that accompanied gave off the fury of their ever closing distance. Most of all, Elle's hand quivered where it rested on her silver coated rapier's hilt at the pressure of their blood lust.

"Stay, calm Elle. And breathe," intoned her Captain.

The total lack of fear in his voice commanded a response on Elle's nerves as she stopped feeling the overwhelming oppression. It was only then she began to breathe less ragged. Elle then closed her eyes and listened while restoring some calmness. It would not be long.

The Captain turned toward the Saintess that they were commissioned to protect. From an entourage of 15, they were now down to the three of them.
The Saintess smiled at him, showing neither fear nor blame.
She only whispered one thing to him as she passed him by,

"Have faith."

She then knelt and prayed in earnest, but lacking any signs of desperation.
He had seen her in action and judged that whatever may fall on the three of them, he was sure that she would survive.

Raising his own sword, he began chanting in ancient tongue... releasing the aura around his blade as it began glowing with heat.
His left hand reached for his projectile weapon as a secondary weapon.

"Elle, it has been a pleasure working with you."

"Aye Captain, same here and if I don't see the morning sunrise, pray for my soul as I do yours."

The Work:

The render was done in stages and groups so as not to tax the computer.
I first started working on the location and Stonemason always delivers.
Then I used the Dweller for my vampire horde and used 4 of them in varies poses I needed. I placed them strategically to ensure they would not be blocked by the other groups. I used 'instance' from the 4 characters to create the numbers.

Keeping the same scene background; render settings and cameras and overall lighting, I worked on the Saintess; then the Captain and finally Elle and the three Dwellers that was attacking her. I rendered many versions and some in via canvas render to allow me to have an easy mapping.

All these were then put together in Photoshop and with the help of Ron/Deviney's Brushes I worked on them. The last artwork that I magnified took more effort with puppet wrap and layers of brushwork to effect the attack look on Elle.
