Christmas Eve was supposed to be magical.
Warm lights glowed through the windows, decorations shimmered softly, and a little girl waited for just one thing…
a tiny miracle from Santa.

But at midnight, everything changed.

She stepped outside, rubbing her sleepy eyes after hearing strange noises on the porch.
And when the door opened… childhood shattered.

There he was Santa Claus
not laughing,
not delivering gifts,
but standing in handcuffs, his head lowered as if the weight of the whole world rested on him.
A police officer held his arm, guiding him away, while Santa’s bag of presents lay open behind them, silently witnessing the collapse of a dream.

The girl didn't understand.
Her voice trembled as she whispered:

“Why… what did he do?
But the truth wasn’t a crime.

It was a sacrifice.

According to an old forgotten legend, when the world becomes too heavy for children’s hearts, a “Keeper of Wishesmust pay the price to keep joy alive.
And this year… Santa was the one chosen.

He wasn’t arrested because he was guilty
He was taken because he carried burdens no one else could.

People would later say he was just a man in a costume.
But that little girl, even years later, would swear that on that cold Christmas night…

she watched the real Santa being led away, still alive, still magical, and still protecting the world in silence.
