Murmansk Remembrance
3D Render by millerblainePropaganda poster sited on a wall in Murmansk in January of 1985 honoring the heroism of Submarine Commander Marko Aleksandrovich Ramius, who sacrificed his life battling the Americans off of America's Atlantic coast.
Obviously, a little salute to The Hunt for Red October. For those who have not seen the movie... Spoiler: In order to remove the crew from the Red October, Ramius fakes a nuclear reactor accident. Once the crew is recovered by a US Navy ship, they witness what they tink is Ramius battling the American submarine, where in actuality, he was defecting to America via the American sub who was engage in battle with an intercepting Russian sub sent to kill Ramius. From the the vantage point of the Russian Crew, Ramius died a hero of The Soviet Union.
So extrapolating from all of that, had the storyline been factual, one may have expected to find a poster honoring the fallen commander, and quite likely in Murmansk. The date of the fictitious battle is in December of 1984, so this is a flight of winter fantasy of the Eastern Bloc variety.
The Connery look-alike is courtesy of Alfan's Unforgettable. The sub poking through the ice is from the Antfarm. The fur hat is from the Incognito Outfit, as is the scarf. The star, hammer and sickle is from Alter Hero's. Additional clothing was Battle Maiden Cape and Royal Lines Jacket. And finally, the poster on the wall was from a product here on Render hub... SG Poster (Old Movies) Props and Textures. The wall was done with 2 renders utilizing some shaders applied to a high resolution plane (so that the displacement would work).
Tree shadows and grunge were achieved via some PSD bushes from Devinney. The renders were posterized and composited in PhotoShop. Google Translate handled, you guessed it... the translation. Subtitles seemed appropriate in this instance.
