Mochi Hada II (WIP)
3D Render by Pushee-RiThis is the skin from " G9 Feminine Skin 02 MAT " (DAZ Starter Essentials) with a few optimizations to the PBR options. The texture maps have not been changed.
Since the Starter Essentials are delivered without makeup - a nice eyeliner and subtle lip makeup can emphasize a model's character - I am currently working on non-destructive ways to apply additional makeup. The project will be delivered for different skin tones (black, pale, regular, etc) ... each with it's own character.
The picture shows Kaori, the character for pale skin. Pale skin is called mochi hada in Japanese, meaning rice cake skin, and is considered an ideal of beauty there. Makeup has not yet been applied, as I am currently still working on the textures for dark/black skin.
Enjoy

She's danger draped in light - the kind of beauty that smokes in silence and lets the shadows do the talking.

Fri, Mar 13Thank you for your kind comment
Unfortunately, I just noticed that Kaori's lower eyelids are too heavy and puffy. So, back to the 3D workbench

Fri, Mar 13Honestly, I wouldn’t have noticed it if you hadn’t pointed it out. The lighting already sells the softness of the skin really well, especially around the cheeks and nose bridge.
That “mochi hadalook is coming through nicely - it has that delicate translucency that’s hard to get right in Iray. Curious to see how the darker skin variations turn out once you finish the shader tuning.

Sat, Mar 14I assume you're already familiar with a black-and-white version of what my dark skin looks like right now (including a little makeup), right!?

Sat, Mar 14Ah yes, I saw that one - the "Abeni IV render". The black-and-white treatment works really well there. It emphasizes the micro skin detail and the specular breakup around the nose and lips, which gives the skin a very natural feel.
What I like most is how the lighting shapes the face without flattening the darker tones. Even in monochrome you can still read the surface depth and softness of the skin, which is not easy to achieve in Iray.
I’m really curious to see how it looks once you finish the shader tuning and show it in full color - especially with that mochi-style softness you’re experimenting with.
Looking forward to the next update
