while everything around me kept changing.
There are things I never say,
not because they hurt,
but because I still don’t know how to name them.
Nostalgia, for instance…
the kind that arrives uninvited
when the light falls at just the angle
that reminds me
of who I was
and what I’ve learned to leave behind.
I’m not broken.
I’m simply made of layers I don’t show to everyone.
Of silences that weigh more than my words.
Of memories that are not tragedy,
but not quite rest either.
Sometimes I close my eyes
and see myself as if I were someone else:
braver,
lighter,
more willing to let go of what I keep out of habit.
I’m not lost.
I’m just learning to recognize
the part of me I always tried to protect.
The part that, at last,
is beginning to speak."
