Dark Nova
3D Render by HexdrakeWas playing with some new assets and came up with this. I wanted a more realistic face and body as a change of pace, and went to undeadcrabb's face shaping packages and character morphs (links below), and I think the face turned out pretty good. A more realistic superhero interview comes with to go with the theme.
Rendered in Daz and edited in Photo Affinity 2.
The character and clothes (both of which were edited) are from DA Belle, and the hair is New Wave Curls (which looks strikingly similar to Olivia Newton John's hair at the end of the film Grease).
I forbid the use of this image in AI algorithms, to train AI, or really any AI use without my express written permission.
A Candid Interview with Dark Nova
Mark: Mrs. Dark Nova, you recently added the ‘Dark’ to your name after leaving the Justice League. Is this an indication of a change in philosophy? Are you now one of the bad guys?
Nova: Nova is fine Mark. Yes, it is a change on how I look at things. As I came up through the ranks of the Justice League, I witnessed again and again mass destruction of not only humankind, but other species as well in a vain attempt to uphold ridiculous standards of fairness, justice, and freedom. I’m not one of the bad guys now, I’m just a realist. This isn’t some fairly tale world – it’s a world with lots of gray, and living and dying in black and white just doesn’t cut it.
Mark: After leaving, you accused the League of creating more problems than it solved. Can you explain?
Nova: Well, maybe not the League, but certainly some very selfish members of the League. Have you looked at the insurance costs in Metropolis? Every powerful supervillain looking to add a notch to his or her belt challenges Superman. They know exactly where he lives. And yeah, he wins almost every time but try telling that to the investors who paid billions to make skyscrapers. Tell that to the families whose sons or daughters were crushed by falling rocks as Superman battled it out. You see, it’s about his freedom, not theirs. At any time, he can travel at near light speed to get anywhere he wants on this planet, but he chooses to live in Metropolis and chooses to put people in danger.
I have a secret base. I don’t let it get out where that is, other than it is nowhere near where people live. It doesn’t take a brain surgeon to figure out these ‘heroes’ are putting their freedoms above those that they protect.
Mark: Ahem. I see. As I understand it, you had a brief relationship with Superman. What was that like?
Nova: Milk toast. Bland. Unappealing. Dealing with a child holding onto ideals that are unreali stic in the real world. He said himself that he “has to hold back because people are like tissue paper Everyone knows that I’m neither tissue nor paper. I really think he just wants someone on a pedestal, not to touch or be in a real relationship with, just to look at and judge.
Mark: Well, it seems you and Superman’s relationship didn’t end well.
Nova: That’s the funny thing. I was upset, of course, I think anyone would be even if they were angry at the person they were with. But the way he looked at me as I was leaving – I could see in his eyes the message, “You just aren’t good enough. That’s when I realized I had been wasting my time; no one is ever going to good enough for him.
Mark: You have publicly stated that you won’t help, and might even hunt repeat offender villains, after letting Lex Luthor die of smoke inhalation during your battle with his Lexbots. What do you say to law-abiding citizens about that behavior?
Nova: That’s just it, law-abiding citizens. They are working their asses off to make a life for themselves, only to have supervillains destroy their lives and be given chance after chance to reform. It’s not that I don’t believe in redemption, it’s that redemption at the cost of peoples’ lives and livelihoods is not right. I don’t know, maybe if Luthor survived he would have turned over a new leaf. What I do know is that he won’t be hurting anyone else from now on – maybe his lackies, maybe his relatives, or maybe other villains, but he won’t. Supervillains routinely show they don’t care about people, property, animals, morals, what have you. Why the Hell are we giving them multiple chances when a citizen can be jailed for far less and is treated worse. I say you get one chance, less than that for things like mass murder, and then you’re done. The UN puts out a bounty and the villain is hunted and put down like what they are – a rabid dog.
Mark: I, uh, well…you do know I didn’t write these questions, right? Some claim your change in costume does not set an appropriate example for little girls who look up to you.
Nova: Yeah, I heard those. They come from uptight people who must think the human body is disgusting to look at. I used to think the same thing, until I realized that I have to do what is comfortable for me. And I tell every one of my fans to do the same. They must find themselves, own their destiny, not let a man tell them they can’t show their stomach or breasts because someone might get turned on by it. That’s there problem.
Look at Israel. You may not agree with their politics, but compulsory military service brings everyone to an even level. You look at the crime levels there and you’ll see that aren’t near the number of rapes as in the United States. That’s because the rapist never knows if he is going to be facing an expert in martial arts or a woman who just has at least some self-defense skills.
Having a girl dress the way you think they should rather than how they want to is a copout. If they wear something that makes them feel self-conscious and are given no reason not to wear it, they will stop wearing it. But if you make it a point of contention, then they’ll act out in spite in some way to feel some measure of control in their lives.
Mark: A lot of people are unfamiliar with your origins, and you seem to keep that and your personal life hidden as much as possible. Why?
Nova: These are personal things to me. Mine. I’m not some celebrity or You-tuber. If you want to get to know me, write to me and if I’m interested, I’ll stop by and we can chat. Just because I’m attractive to some doesn’t give them rights to know anything I don’t want to tell them. I’m just trying to make the most of my time in this universe and help people along the way. I don’t hold myself to impossible standards, and I don’t hold other people to them either. And the last thing I want to do is turn some person I care about into ammunition for some supervillain. I keep my mouth shut and don’t involve them in my business. Period.
Mark: There are some that claim that your previous acts as Nova were borderline vigilante; will you be resorting to even more lawless methods in administering justice?
Nova: See here – I’m not administering justice, what’s done is done. If anything, I’m administering mercy. You saw how well the UN policing the Justice League worked. If it becomes a choice between the freedom of innocents and the freedom of a supervillain, I choose the innocent every time. I don’t let local laws or customs get in the way of that; I don’t care if screwing your daughter is accepted by your peers, or your territory, or your country, or the whole fucking world. It’s wrong, and if I catch you doing it, I will protect your daughter. If that means teaching you a lesson you won’t forget to keep your hands off her, so be it.
For decades we heroes have been operating outside the law. It’s hard to say whether one person being a judge, or jury, or even an executioner according to their own standards works. Sooner or later though, the real hero becomes public, and if the public feels that they are a menace, steps are taken or other heroes intervene. Trusting your gut isn’t a perfect system, and sometimes your gut is wrong, but how many court cases in the US were revisited and thrown out after DNA evidence was established as legal evidence. How many people die before a company is caught doing the wrong thing, or a substance turns out to be highly dangerous. Fact is, heroes that need to be policed aren’t heroes at all, their villains. It’s not a perfect system, but after the UN debacle it’s pretty clear that bureaucrats have no business telling heroes how to do their jobs. The only people that can police heroes are other heroes – the governments of the world can barely handle tending to their own people, and now they are supposed to make rules for people that have abilities vastly different from their own? It’s like a wolf telling a jaguar how to hunt. I think we just have to muddle through it as best we can, try to keep the people using their powers to help others as informed as possible, and keeping a close eye on them but not interfering.
Mark: What’s in the future for the new Dark Nova? Where do you see yourself in a decade or two?
Nova: I hope I have the same positive outlook, that I still want to help people. In many ways, it’s the highest calling one can hope to provide. Sometimes it’s hard when you realize that if you fail, then very, very bad things can happen, but it is during those moments where I find that little extra to prevent just that. And maybe I get a bad rep for being nasty to bad people. That I can deal with, that I revel in. If you’re evil and you hate me because I come down on you and your miscreants hard, that just makes me feel better, not worse. I don’t want fame, I don’t want fortune, I just want to live my life and help out everyday people by making sure the latest supervillain doesn’t have that second chance to engulf half a city in flames.
Mark: I guess it’s safe to say you’re a heroine of contradictions. Before you leave, how do you respond to what the League has said – “Dark Nova is in no way a part of the League, that all human life is precious, and that continued crimes against humanity will be dealt with
Nova: I say they can protect the Lex Luthors and Jokers all they want. Put them in prison, watch them break out again and again and kill innocents. Me, I’m taking action. And if you’re protecting those assholes, you’re with them and not with the people who really need your help, those they hurt. And if your moral code doesn’t agree with what I’m doing, feel free to take whatever ‘steps’ you feel are necessary. I kicked Superman’s ass once, and I’m not the only hero tired of the same of shit, so bring it on.
