Ryu is somewhere behind me now — whatever that means for something that was never alive. The Voight-Kampff doesn't lie. Neither does the retirement report. I filed it the same way I'd file a noise complaint.
The bar crowd doesn't move. They've learned that. You stand still when a blade runner clears a scene, because moving looks like running, and running looks like guilt.
Killing implies something worth mourning.
I don't mourn components.
The city hums the same note. Unbothered by one less Nexus unit drawing breath it didn't need.
I'll be back at the precinct before the rain starts.
