Kio stepped off his sleek spaceship onto the bustling spaceport platform, his boots clanking softly on the concrete surface. The air was thick with the hum of engines and the chatter of intergalactic travelers, a symphony of sounds Kio was all too familiar with. He had just arrived on Corvos-9, a remote outpost known for its busy trade routes and diverse mix of species. But as he looked around, something felt... off.

Kio adjusted his jacket, a well-worn piece of gear that had seen countless spaceports, and took a slow, deliberate glance around. Nearby, a group of people—humans and a few aliens—were clustered together, speaking in hushed tones. Their eyes darted nervously, and every so often, one of them would shoot a glance at a sleek, black ship docked at the far end of the port. It was a government vessel, unmistakable with its sharp lines and glowing insignia, a stark contrast to the patchwork freighters and cruisers that filled the rest of the bay.

Pretending to inspect a panel on the side of his own ship, Kio pulled out a toolkit. He unscrewed a perfectly functioning plate, peering at the innards of his ship as if making adjustments. He kept one eye on the group, listening intently. The words were fragmented but clear enough to piece together: “inspection,” “cargo,” “timing.”
