Laura Bassi
3D Render by MjrkLaura Bassi was the first female professor at the Academy of Bologna.
At the age of 21 she was accepted as honorable doctor of the academy (and the academy decided to refuse any further women in their ranks - oh dear!?!)
Here she demonstrates the effect on a house struck by lightning. To demonstrate a lightning conductor, the missing piece of wood was replaced by a square of wood with an inset metal rod that connected the two metal rods already in the wall.
Laura Bassi is played by Alexandra (G8/Brahan/RR), Crimp Ponytail Hair for G9 by FeSoul/DAZ, Lady Cathryn Dress/DAZ, Leiden-Flasks are from the Electrcity-Set by hypnagogia/DAZ. Books by Tatiana Gladkaya/Renderhub. Models from Sketchfab:"Gothic crucifix" by Virtual Museums of Malopolska, Hammer by shuvalov.di
Thanks for looking!

Sun, Nov 03, 2024Thanks!
She wanted to get permission to install a lightning conductor (I hope this is the right word) on one of the many towers in Bologna. Therefore this experiment. The magistrate was finally convinced. But after protest of superstitious citizens it had to be taken down again.

Wed, Nov 06, 2024Being a longtime Vue user, and discovering render times in Daz are not all that dissimilar, I can believe it.

Thu, Nov 07, 2024Really? Then you must be a PC-user. Vue always crashed on my Macs. I wasn't even able to get 1 rendering out of it.
I had to use Bryce instead.

Thu, Nov 07, 2024I am a PC user. But I'm pretty sure there were folks who used Macs too. I'll have to ask in my Vue Facebook group.
My friend, I immediately recognized your personal style and your gift for letting us less stupids. One more time : hat off!

Sun, Nov 10, 2024Oh, I don't want to lecture anybody. I just saw a TV-feature about Laura Bassi and I found her very impressive.
Besides - I wanted to build this awesome Static Electricity Generator. (and then I found out, I already had a
similar machine in my collection of models) (Anyway, it was fun - apart from the making of the catenary)

Superbly done and thanks for the information...I didn't learn this when I was visiting the University of Bologna !

Wed, Nov 20, 2024Thanks! Perhaps they are a bit ashamed about the circumstances at her time
and the bigotry that was connected with her becoming a Professoressa?

She seems rather charming in this historical artwork. The machinery is also carefully constructed and built.

You are a Master of composition. Aweseome render.
The one aspect that bothers me a bit here is the fall of the hair.

Sat, May 31, 2025You are right: it's a hair for G9. Once it sits on the head of G8 it isn't really steerable.
One has to push it around with the mesh grabber tool - and sometimes it works,
sometime it doesn't.
