Prince and princess eyed each other, flirting one last time before the tides of a new day swept in around them.

“I would like to build a school,” Breena told him as she was dressed. “A college.”

“Do you think Jahka’s lacking in training opportunities? There’s a decent selection of guilds.”

“Not the same,” she replied. Biting her bottom lip, she peered around at him. “I was thinking of something more like the Royal Academy. You know. Real academics. Plus, I’d like to invite more opportunities, including the introduction to basic uses for magic.” She continued to smile despite his sudden hesitation or the frown he supplied.

“Perhaps,” he answered. He could hear his father’s arguments even now. Farmers didn’t need things like math or reading to clutter their minds. And magic? Baros was fairly certain Halgundar would end that discussion with a simple: “Over my dead body.”

“Just everyday uses,” Breena told him. “To begin at least.” She lifted her arms as her handmaid secured a sash around her waist.

Baros refused to comment, or commit. He opened his mouth with the intent to change the subject, saved by the arrival of his own personal attendant.

My last character build of 2024. Not sure if it's something I do, or that Daz does, but every once in a while, I get more photo realism than I expected. Not sure I've settled on her character, either. Breena's is definitely a flat character arc, but it's pivotal to several other stories and to the changes Farro faces.

Anyhow, Happy New Year. I hope 2025 ends with more luck than it begins with for everyone.
