3D Render by EverwildFrom "Hannah and the Dark One" (a very old story) - one of the many stages of Sin.
"We practice the dark arts here," said the thing with many teeth. A gnarled finger prodded at her exposed throat and she felt her flesh give. She wanted those sensations to be cold and distant, but they were unrelenting - the tearing of paper or the collapsing of a door. Darkness bloomed beneath each tap and she could hear its nail scritch against her skin. "We practice the dark arts here," it said again and settled upon her chest, "and it's all... because of YOU."
The pounding of her heart within her ears became the pounding of padded feet against the cracked landscape. Beyond a flash of teeth, she caught the glow of Sin's eyes. In the next moment, the gremlin was no more. Whatever protest it thought to air was cut short between mighty jaws. She heard its body thump a few hundred feet above her head. The dark drip of blood dangling from Sin's fang told her the thing must be dead. Then Hannah brushed Sin aside and peered down into her eyes.
"It's alright now," the little girl said as she took hold of Lucky's hand and helped her up. "It's gone. Don't worry; Sin will always watch over us."

This was an audition piece I did a little while ago. Thanks for looking.

Is there more to this story Eve?
I'm left with more questions. And the feeling of wanting to read more of the story.
Who's lucky? Is Hannah a werewolf? Could this be reality or a mental landscape....
Maybe Sin is a manifestation of Hannah....
The perfect teaser for someone to want to purchase a book
Love the render you done for it.
Awesome work and writing

Mon, Nov 25, 2024I love that it makes you ask those questions, Cosmo. It's an old, old novella I wrote many moons ago (prior to the turn of the century, even). Not a very sophisticated story on its surface, but looking back on it, I see nuances I could have leaned into better. Thoughts and ideas that, at the time, didn't seem all that relevant to the story, but which suddenly I think could be important if revamped and folded into another story -- one that deals with the harder truths about reality. Suicide. Isolation. Mental illness. Never quite fitting in and always being on the fringes of society.
