The Key (Part 2)
3D Render by slofkoskyVarbara’s hand went straight to her dagger, the weapon she always kept close. With the knight’s rotten breath filling her lungs and her heart pounding, she disconnected from the moment feeling the way her trusty dagger felt, it's weight, how she would guide it, the amount of force she would need. Then with great speed and precious she pulled it free from the holder and skillfully drove it directly into the side of the decaying knights skull.
The undead knight's blade dropped on the concrete floor echoing throughout the chambers as he staggered, clutching at his face with both hands, howling in pain. For a second she thought she’d done it, thought she had actually won. But the sound changed, the howl slowly turning into a low, horrible laugh. “You foolhe growled, his voice echoing in the stone “the dead cannot die. I’ll carve your beauty away until only screams remain and still the key will be mine.
She began to run before he could finish, feet slamming against the stone floor, skirt flailing in the wind. The dungeon was a maze of endless corridors, every turn the same, every hall stretching into cold dark. Her breath came ragged and shallow, fear of the knight mixing with the fear that she would never find a way out. The key at her chest swung wildly as she ran, heavy as if it wanted her to sink instead of escape.
Then, at last, she saw it a faint light up ahead, the promise of an exit. She threw herself toward it, every muscle burning. But just as she crossed the threshold, a pale hand shot out of the shadows and seized her. She screamed and tried to fight, but it held tight, pulling her back. From the dark came the knight’s voice, cruel and mocking. “Run as fast as you like little rabbit. In the end there's no escape.
NOTES:
Loved the first scene so much that I decided to do a follow up with MSO Barbara, named Varbara for the story.
I am always thankful to everyone who helps me, gives me a fav, leaves a comment. Just know that I try to answer everyone, visit your gallery. But in those cases when I cannot, please know that I am so thankful.
