The Key (Part 4)

Their blades flashed in desperate unison, some hacking at limbs, others thrusting for its eyes, but nothing slowed the shadow born creature. It shredded them piece by piece, black mist sealing the chamber so none could flee. Their rotted flesh tore away as easily as linens pulled from a bed, their hollow screams echoing with a pain that even the dead should not have felt.
The massacre was relentless, a theater of futility and terror.
She repositioned herself, knees to her face, pressing her eyes shut, rocking back and forth to comfort herself, praying it would end. The sounds, terrifying and sharp, forced their way into her mind. Bones breaking, armor bending, voices silenced. When at last she dared to look again, only one knight remained... the leader. The demon wrenched its skull free, cradling it like a trophy before turning its gaze toward her.
Varbara froze where she sat, bound and trembling, too afraid to crawl or run. The monster advanced slowly, the skull dangling from its claws, each step promising that her part in this nightmare was only just beginning.
NOTES:
This was the last I had created in this series. From here she becomes possessed by the dark spirit which is now free to roam the Earth.
