Lexi steadied her breath, her heart pounding as echoes of the gunshot still lingered in the cavernous mine. The dust unsettled from the splintered wood pillar swirled in the dim lantern light, creating an eerie haze that clung to the cold, damp air. She narrowed her eyes at the approaching figure, tension knotting in her chest—until recognition dawned.

“Sage?she called out, her voice edged with disbelief.

Lexi lowered her weapon but kept it close. “I thought this was just an emerald mine,she mused, scanning the decayed walls. “Looks like you had the same idea.
“Yeah, a little treasure hunting,Sage replied, but his voice held a strange note—a whisper of something else, something he wasn’t saying outright. His gaze flickered past her, toward the dark tunnel stretching beyond. “But look at this,he muttered, gesturing deeper into the mine.

Lexi followed his gaze. The shadows moved unnaturally, stretching and twisting like something alive. And then—her breath hitched.

Through the rubble and dust, a structure loomed beyond the jagged rock, its crumbling towers barely visible through the fractured entrance of a hidden valley. A castle—ancient, forgotten, and nearly swallowed by time itself.

She took a step forward, her pulse quickening. “This place hides more than just emeralds,she murmured.

Sage shifted uneasily beside her. “And maybe more than just secrets.
The silence that followed was suffocating. A slow, creaking sound echoed from somewhere deep in the tunnels—too deliberate, too unnatural. Lexi’s fingers tightened around her weapon.

Something—someone—was watching them.

And they weren’t alone.

A great story that you couldn't tell in a more exciting way. Without seeing the picture and just reading the story, one is transported into exactly the world you have created here. A unique symbiosis between test and picture.

I dare say, if you look at the picture in full size, that you can already guess the reactions of both of them.

Lexi, tense and wary of what to expect, and Sage, terrified by Lexi's reaction, yet both holding their nerve to complete their mission.

A treasure hunt that is obviously more than they originally expected.

I'm sure you'll find something, maybe not what you're looking for, but definitely something unexpected.

Things have this habit of not always turning out as originally thought. It's part of what makes life an adventure.
