Almost Human (Part 5)
3D Render by slofkoskyFor a few impossible weeks, Javier allowed himself to believe in accidents.
A crowded train.
A passing joke.
A number written inside the cover of an old book.
Mara had entered his life like something unplanned. For the first time in years, he stopped questioning good fortune when it found him.
That evening, she smiled across the table and asked if he trusted her choice in drinks.
“I’ll surprise youshe said.
Then she was gone, moving through the warm glow of the hotel bar.
The phone on the table buzzed.
Once.
He had not meant to look.
But his own face stared back from the screen.
NEXT TARGET.
For a moment, Javier did not move.
Across the room, Mara was already turning back toward him, two glasses in her hands and a softness in her expression he had come to know too well.
And suddenly he could not tell which part hurt more.
That she had been sent to find him.
Or that some part of him still believed she had chosen to stay.

I love how cinematic your scenes are and the emotions you instill in your characters! Great work!

14 Hours agoThank you so kindly ElorOnceDark! Emotions are something I try so hard for, but often fall short of my goal. I'm just glad it comes through.
As an example, in this case, I wasn't too happy with her reaction. I spent so much time tweaking facial portions like the cheek, lips, eyes, eyebrows over and over. Finally decided to do a DOF on the camera to blur much of it out.
Once again, thank you so very much. Your work ROCKS by the way!

14 Hours agoI agree, sadness and apprehension is the perfect wording for this scene. Hope these two can figure something out, or will he end up dead like the first scene of this story?
Thank you so much Blue Flame! Hope you are doing incredible today.
