Ivory, Her Cat Moshi and Poe the Crow (Part #3)
3D Render by slofkoskyFrom Part #2:
In the middle of this beautiful restful day, Poe, who was resting on the picnic basket, let out a volley of caws. Ivory felt it second as the hairs on the back of her neck began standing up in alert, then all of her senses began screaming for her attention.
Part #3:
Turning to where Poe was staring, a veil of mist rolled over the river, swallowing the edges of the world in a soft shifting haze. The afternoon sun shimmered through the canopy, dappling the water with gold and emerald, where dragonflies danced in lazy arcs. Leaves rustled in the whispering breeze, carrying the scent of damp earth and wildflowers, but the air suddenly felt colder... unnatural.
Ivory's breath hitched as a shadow took shape in the fog, a figure emerging from the nothingness, its form flickering between substance and smoke. Water dripped from its body, pooling at its feet though no ripples disturbed the river’s surface. Moss clung to its shoulders, and long strands of riverweed hung from its arms like tattered remnants of a forgotten grave. Its face, barely visible through the shifting mist, was marred by time and tragedy, its eyes hollow pools of something not quite dead but far from living. A hand reached out, fingers trembling with something between yearning and menace.
Without hesitation, Ivory swept Moshi her grey-furred companion, into her arms, his tiny claws digging into her sleeve. With her free hand, she tore her wand from the picnic basket, its body gleaming with latent power.
"Speak your truth! Once... and only once. Then I will decide your fate!" she commanded, her voice unwavering despite the chill creeping down her spine.
The apparition stilled, its form shifting like the river itself, as though it were only half in this world. When it spoke, its voice was neither wholly human nor fully lost... an echo stretched thin across time.
"What makes a man invisible yet bound to this world?" it asked, the words drifting like frost in the air.
"Why do memories fade, replaced by sorrow and disdain for the living?"
A gust of wind sent crimson winged butterflies spiraling between them, caught in the tension of the moment but drawn by the magic in the air like charged ions after a storm. The ghost’s hollow gaze met hers, and its voice deepened, brittle with ancient grief.
"Did you summon me, Ivory? Or do I linger, trapped between life and death, waiting for someone to see me once more?"
The river swelled at its feet, disturbed by something unseen. The air crackled.
The choice and response was now hers.
NOTES:---------------
I changed the creature from Ferocious Beast HD to Swamp Beast as I wanted to create a murdered spirit that still exists between two worlds. Angry and waiting for vengeance or justice. I then wanted to go back and re-render Part #2 but found that I overwrote it... DOH!!! So, you, the audience, are left with your imagination. Imagination to see past the mistake I created in Part #2 with utilizing ferocious beast and instead imagine fog, mist or a question springing from the waters.

Thu, Mar 13Thank you so much for not paying too close attention to the creature.
I appreciate it bisonravi!

Great writing once again. I wonder how the ghost knows her name, and if the unfinished obligation that ties him to this earth is about her.
