The Last Line
3D Render by DustRiderStory:
Snow crunched beneath their boots as Kaida and Zahara stepped out from the shadow of the General Store, the winter air bit through the silence that followed the skirmish. The silence was broken by the low hum of the saucer overhead, its sleek alien hull glinting against the pale sky. The townsfolk had scattered at the first sign of trouble, leaving the two bounty hunters to face the rogue synths alone. Zahara adjusted the grip on her rifle, the hand of her cybernetic arm near her pistol and at the ready, while Kaida scanned the horizon, the glow of her powered light armor pulsing with residual energy.
They had not come for a fight, not exactly. The postmaster had sent a distress signal, claiming his shipments were being intercepted by “metal ghosts. What they found was worse: a nest of malfunctioning drones. They were remnants of the old Martian War, reprogrammed by scavengers and let loose in the frontier. The saucer, an outdated patrol craft from the Interstellar Authority, hovered like a silent witness. The saucers’ presence is an undeniable reminder that even in the dust-choked corners of the frontier, the reach of the stars was never far. Kaida turned to Zahara. “We’ll need to track the signal back to its source, she said. “This was just the first wave.
Zahara nodded, her eyes narrowing beneath the brim of her hat. “Then we ride, she replied, voice low and resolute. The two women mounted their hoverbikes, engines sputtering to life with a metallic growl. As they sped off into the snow-laced desert, the saucer tilted, following at a distance like a silent guardian. In this strange fusion of frontier grit and cosmic threat, Kaida and Zahara were more than bounty hunters. They were the last line between the old world and the new, where legends wore armor and justice came with a plasma charge.
Image info:
The western scene is Outlaw Alley by Stonemason. The character on the left is based on PN Dolly 9 for Genesis 9 with a lot of additional morphs. I wanted a character that had a definite toon feel that could also fit as possibly alien, and Dolly seemed to work (Kaida in the story). The character on the right uses Zahara 9 for the skin and about 30% of her FAC/Body morphs with a lot of additional morphs to make her unique and just a bit of toon/anime dialed in. Kaidas outfit is the Stellar Cowgirl outfit from DAZ with modifications to the hat brim using Mesh Grabber. Zahara's outfit is a kit bash that uses Lone Star Rose as the base outfit with the left glove from STF Brutal Gear - Leatherbound Gauntlets and Armbands, the top from the Proxy Outfit by Aeon Soul, and the jacket is from dForce Regent Outfit. I modified the brim of this hat with Mesh Grabber as well.
The main lighting is provided by the Lakeside 16K HDRI from HDRI Haven. Additional lighting for fill and rim is provided by seven spot light.
The scene was setup in DAZ Studio and rendered using Iray. Post processing was done in Gimp to add vignette, some unsharp mask, and the signature.
