Sprite Sheet / Flipbook Packer & Unpacker

Use this free online sprite sheet packer to turn animation frames into a sprite sheet or flipbook texture, or to split an existing sheet back into its frames, directly in your browser. It reads PNG, JPEG, WebP, GIF, BMP and TGA images, keeps every pixel exactly as it was, previews the animation and downloads the sheet, a JSON atlas or an animated PNG, with no desktop application and no upload to a server.

Pack Frames Into a Sprite Sheet or Flipbook

Drop your frames or a folder of them and they line up in natural name order, so frame 2 comes before frame 10. Each cell takes the size of the largest frame with every frame centered in it, and the grid comes out square by default. Set Columns or Rows to force a layout, add padding between cells, trim the empty space with one shared crop so the frames stay registered, and snap the sheet to a power-of-two size for game engines. Drag frames in the strip to reorder them or drop one from the set.

Unpack a Sprite Sheet Into Frames

Open a single sheet and the grid is read from its file name, such as fire_8x8, or found from the transparent gaps between frames, with Columns and Rows fields to correct it. Empty cells are skipped. Download the frames as a zip of numbered PNGs, or send them straight back to the packer to change the layout, for example from 8 × 8 to 4 × 16.

Preview the Animation Before You Export

The Animation card plays the frames at the rate you set, with a scrubber to step through them and a ping-pong option for back-and-forth loops. It works the same for frames you packed and for a sheet you unpacked, so timing and registration problems show up before the sheet goes into a game or a material.

Export for Game Engines and VFX

The sheet downloads as a PNG with its transparency intact, together with a JSON atlas in the TexturePacker format that Phaser, PixiJS and Cocos read, which also records the grid, the frame size and the frame rate. The same grid drops into a Unity sprite slice or an Unreal flipbook material. The animation can also be saved as an animated PNG that plays in every current browser.

Keep Pixels Exact for Soft Edges

Browsers quietly change the color of semi-transparent pixels when an image passes through a canvas, which shows in smoke, fire and glow flipbooks. This tool reads and copies the raw pixels instead, so a sheet repacked from its own frames comes back identical, byte for byte. Only the power-of-two option changes the size of the sheet, and nothing changes the pixels themselves.
