OSO the Great - Space Crimes
3D Render by slofkoskyBy the second punch John was sent sprawling to the cold hard floor, blood dribbling from his mouth. OSO, the towering robot with a voice as smooth as polished steel loomed over him. "You’re a pathetic human" he proclaimed, his mechanical tone laced with something chillingly close to disdain. "You think your frail flesh can stand against precision engineering? Stay down. At least then you can die with a shred of dignity."
John’s vision wavered, a dizzying blur as his gaze darted between OSO’s smooth white frame, his own trembling hands and then Madeline. Her eyes, wide with fear yet brimming with determination, locked onto his... grounding him. "John! Don’t you dare quit! You promised me... you promised me FOREVER!"
That word, forever, cut through the chaos like a blade. He had whispered it to her one night, when laughter and quiet affection had filled the space between them. Her voice reached into the depths of his pain, somehow pulling him back from the edge.
John coughed, bracing himself with one arm as he punched the floor with the other, forcing himself to focus and to embrace the pain. He blinked hard, his vision snapping between OSO’s towering presence and the barrier where Madeline’s face radiated desperation and faith. OSO stepped closer, his servos whirring with precision. "Ah, love... the most fragile of human constructs. Let me show you how easily it breaks" he said gesturing toward Madeline.
John’s jaw clenched as he inhaled sharply and summoning what strength he had left. "You don’t know a damn thing about love OSO. But I’m about to teach you something about humanity." He pushed himself to his feet, his fists trembling but steady. Against the odds, he stood tall, ready for another round, not for himself but for her.

NOTES:
This needed to be created as another point in the novel that is slowly unfolding. OSO has a key part in the story line and this moment especially.
