Monica had felt it for weeks now, him slipping away, piece by piece. Work, clients and now that new secretary... Candy. It was enough to make her lose sleep and her appetite. So when he told her to “dress up" for the event Thursday, the night before Halloween, she decided to remind him just what he could lose.
She found the perfect top online, one that barely obeyed gravity, and paired it with the skirt she’d worn the night they first met on the dance floor. It felt poetic somehow and now symbolic in a way.

With a brave face and shaking hands clutching her pumpkin acting as a purse, she stepped into the hall. Carpet everywhere, soft music, elegant laughter. It wasn't until halfway down the grand staircase that her confidence began to crack. Every head turned toward her. Every tuxedoed man blinked twice and stared a little too freely.

Her legs carried her forward out of instinct, but her mind started whispering questions she didn’t want answered.

At the bottom, just when she passed Candy and stepped into the light, she saw the sign.

"BLACK-TIE CHARITY GALA."

Her blood ran cold.

And that’s when she heard him call her name.

"Monica??"

NOTES:
It haunted me, wanted to do one more "Halloween" image before the Halloween contest had passed. Lo and behold, that's when the incredibly talented Mousso reached out, seeing if I wanted to try out her upcoming character Monica.... OF COURSE!! Are you insane you incredibly beautiful artist!?!

What a wonderful idea to give the new "Monica" a great introduction. She is charming in that way that is so recognizable as yours. A touching story, and I hope that "he" will understand her properly and that she can be happy again. Judging by the looks of the ladies present, there seems to be some envy involved. wink

(As is unfortunately far too often the case these days.) I love your perfectly fitting, delicate lighting and the warm color scheme with the blue and red highlights. I wish you the best of luck in the contest!
